AWiS: #ASPIRE

Alpine Women in Sport (AWiS) creates community across Canada for ski coaches who aspire to reach their full potential in sport and life.

AWiS Webinars: Knowledge sharing for alpine ski coaches

Our 2023/24 AWiS series on mental health, “The Coaching Life: Surviving or Thriving?,” opened this past December 11 with “Connection, Community, and Coaching: A Conversation with Heather Cribbin.” It gave participants a safe space to discuss the challenges and stressors they faced as alpine ski coaches. Heather, a Mental Performance Coach, guided everyone through the discussion.

“Setting Boundaries and Other Strategies to Enhance Well-being”

Heather Cribbin was back this past January 22 for Part 2 of our webinar series on mental health. She discussed the results of a community survey, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and personal responsibility in maintaining well-being and the significance of boundaries. She introduced the PERMA model for well-being and explained how it relates to resilience, self-esteem, and self-efficacy. Heather also introduced a coaching model called The Wheel of Life to assess different aspects of life. She then talked about the concept of burnout, defining it and emphasizing its connection to long-term stress and interpersonal relationships.
