“Conscious Coaching: The Art & Science of Building Buy-In” by Brett Bartholomew introduces a deeper approach to coaching athletes. Bartholomew focuses on viewing athletes as people first and building relationships with them. He believes that there is only a certain amount of success that comes purely from training, its human connection drives people to greater heights. Through the use of “Buy-Ins” coaches gain the trust of their athletes which allows them to grow and progress. Throughout the book, Bartholomew emphasizes the importance of understanding and opening up about your past before being able to understand your athletes. He shares his personal struggles with overcoming adversity, while also creating a “buy-in” with the reader.
Mana’s favourite type of book is one that provides an alternative approach to solving problems. Rather than working on the surface, “Conscious Coaching: The Art & Science of Building Buy-In” dives deep into the foundation needed to build athletes.
