Nick Katrusiak is a true force on the slopes and a rising star in the world of ski cross. His journey into the world of skiing began at the tender age of 2 and by 9, he was already racing with the Whistler Mountain Ski Club in his hometown of Whistler, BC. As the years went by, Nick’s love for skiing evolved so at 16, he made the bold switch from alpine racing to ski cross. The move took him to the Nakiska Alpine Ski Association, where he continued to hone his skills and grow his passion for the sport.
This year, Nick’s hard work and dedication paid off as he proudly secured a spot on the Canada Ski Cross, Next-Gen team. It’s a significant achievement for this young athlete. Reflecting on his journey, Nick fondly recalls the first time he ventured into a ski-cross race at the age of 8. Despite not fully understanding the sport at the time, the speed, jumps, and camaraderie made an indelible impression. Little did he know that this experience would ignite a passion that led him to ski cross professionally.
In acknowledging the people who have played a pivotal role in his journey, Nick gives a well-deserved shoutout to his coach, Kya Fairley. Her guidance and support have been instrumental in shaping his path in the world of ski cross. And the 19-year-old skier continues to make his mark, recently earning a 15th place in the third World Cup race of his career, and his first in Europe. We can’t wait to see where his passion and talent will take him next. Here’s to an exciting journey ahead!
